OCPF Release Paths
The Otero County Prison Facility is part of the New Mexico Corrections Department prison system and is operated by Management & Training Corporation. It is not the county jail. The state facility page describes a state-inmate west wing, Level 2 and Level 3 custody, restricted-custody space, and program resources. Those facts place OCPF within sentenced state custody, not the local pretrial and short-term detention path used at OCDC.
Leaving OCPF can mean a transfer to another NMCD institution, physical release to parole, discharge after sentence completion, or discharge to probation. Parole ends prison confinement but continues legal supervision. Discharge to probation also leaves a court-ordered community term in place. A final discharge is a later event when all applicable corrections or supervision duties end under the governing record.
The state offender detail should be read with the release plan and status. When exact evidence matters, the NMCD release audit and related sentence records are more useful than a status label alone. They show what staff checked before the planned release or discharge route was approved.
Search OCPF Release Records
Open the NMCD Offender Search. It covers people incarcerated by NMCD and those on NMCD probation or parole. It does not cover an ordinary Otero County jail stay. The portal permits a search by last name, first name, or offender number, with at least one main field required for most queries. Use more than one identifier when possible because names can repeat.
- Enter the offender number when known. Otherwise use the full name and narrow by the available age or region controls.
- Select Active for a person believed to be in prison or on current state supervision. Select Include Inactive for a former or discharged NMCD offender.
- Complete the portal check and compare identifiers before opening Details. Do not rely on a similar name alone.
- Read the location and supervision status together. An active prison location indicates continuing custody, while active parole or probation points to community supervision.
- Request the specific release or discharge record if the result is absent, unclear, inactive, or missing the needed date.
The portal also offers an Absconder Only setting. An absconder is a person alleged to have stopped reporting or complying with supervision. That status is not discharge and does not itself establish present prison custody. Verify it with NMCD Probation and Parole or the responsible court. The portal’s prison information updates nightly, and NMCD instructs readers to allow a day. Probation and Parole data is described as real time, but the supervising office remains the best confirmation when status has just changed.
NMCD warns that a record can disappear for technical reasons and directs status questions to the institution or supervision office. Therefore, no result is not proof that the person left custody. The Otero County release search paths can help identify a different system if the person’s custody history did not involve NMCD.
Read OCPF Release Results
The live search begins with clear controls, but a detail record can vary. Possible content includes an NMCD identifier, name, photograph, physical description, aliases, facility or location, supervision status, and offense or judgment information. The stable landing page does not promise that every historical result displays an exact release date or Projected Release Date. Inspect the actual person record before relying on a field.

A projected date is a calculation, not the completed departure. It may change after earned deductions, forfeitures, restored credit, a court amendment, added credit, discipline, a new detainer, or a pre-release audit correction. The actual release or parole record is the stronger source once the event has occurred.

Request OCPF Release Evidence
NMCD Offender Management Services maintains sentence and release calculations. For a documented OCPF departure, request the release audit or checklist, relevant sentence calculation, earned-deduction records, current and changed projected dates, and the record showing parole, discharge, or discharge to probation. If supervision later ended, ask for the final discharge order or certificate where applicable.
Submit formal requests through NMCD NextRequest, which the department identifies as its regularly monitored online records avenue. Name the person and offender number, identify OCPF and the custody range, and list the precise record categories. A request that merely asks staff to state a date is less traceable than one seeking the actual audit or discharge record.

Release policy calls for staff to audit the judgment and sentence, sentence order, presentence credit, deductions, forfeitures and restorations, lump sums, detainers, warrants, registration duties when applicable, and the release plan. Some material may be redacted or withheld under law. Ask the custodian to provide any reasonably segregable nonexempt portion and the legal basis for withheld content.
OCPF Parole Release Checks
A person released from OCPF on parole is outside prison but remains under legal custody and field supervision. Search NMCD under Active and review the supervision portion of the result. Then confirm through the assigned Probation and Parole office because the public location and legal status can change. For Otero County, NMCD Region III includes Alamogordo District Office 12A.

The initial prison release and the later end of parole are separate events. If the question is whether the person completed supervision, use Include Inactive and seek the final discharge document. A calendar estimate alone can be wrong where revocation, tolling, a warrant, an amended judgment, or another consecutive obligation affects the term.

The facility contact is useful for current institutional information. Formal sentence, audit, and discharge documents belong through NMCD’s records channel. Use the portal for the initial status check and a focused records request for evidence.

The OCPF phone should not be treated as a substitute for the state record. When the issue is a particular release calculation, discharge, or transfer, identify the document and offender number. That approach gives NMCD a defined record to locate and preserves the difference between an informal status answer and the agency’s retained evidence.

The official NMCD OCPF page establishes the prison’s state-corrections role, operator, address, and contact route.
The page confirms that OCPF belongs to the state prison system. A named person’s release still requires the NMCD offender result and, when needed, the release audit or discharge record.
Otero Facility Release Systems
Otero County’s three similarly named facilities can cause serious search errors. OCDC in Alamogordo is the county detention center. OCPF on McGregor Range Road is the NMCD prison. The neighboring Otero County Processing Center is an ICE civil immigration detention facility. Each system records departure in its own terms and through its own agency.
A county booking and release entry cannot prove release from OCPF. In the other direction, an NMCD inactive result says nothing definitive about an OCDC-only stay. ICE movement also cannot be resolved through either state or county corrections records. The correct source must follow the legal custodian, not the facility name or its location.
A person may leave Otero County Detention Center and arrive at OCPF after sentencing. In that case, the county file should state a transfer destination, and NMCD may begin showing the person after intake and its nightly update. That short gap between systems is not proof of release. Confirm the destination and allow for processing before drawing a conclusion.
